Old Dirt Road is a multi-use property with sustainably managed planted pine forest covering the major portion of the acreage and a significant portion maintained as native-hardwood mixed-growth forest. The forest provides almost 5 miles of trails for trail bikes, mountain biking, or trail running. There are abundant white tail deer, turkeys and small game. Please remember that hunting is allowed by specifix written permission only. 5 campsites within the forest are available to rent and easily accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles. The Pacolet River borders a half-mile of the property and is only a short walk from the available cabins and campsites and the river is easily accessed with kayaks to finish or start a trip on the Pacolet River Blueway. The original homestead cabin shown above has been preserved while the other homes have been revitalized and are available for short-term individual or group rentals.
The Old Dirt Road property was originally built by the indefatigable Samuel Jervey Dupre II. After 37 years as a principal at Pine Street School in Spartanburg, Jervey Dupre handbuilt three homes on his Glendale property at Old Dirt Road using stones collected from the property and mortar hand-mixed with sand he brought up from the Pacolet River by wheelbarrow. His industriousness is evident in the homes he built and the beautifully landscaped grounds and stone retaining walls.
Spartanburg is a vibrant city with excellent restaurants, a burgeoning downtown, and a calendar full of cultural events.
